Upgrading VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0.2 to 9.1: The Ultimate Step-by-Step Runbook Phase 4

In previous blog we continue the upgrade for VCF 9.1 sequence component that was VCF Managed services was deployed . Here in my Environment we had an existing Identity Broker . let us dive in Upgrade of Identity Broker . As part of the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.1 architecture, VCF Identity Broker (vIDB) moves away from the standalone appliance model used in VCF 9.0 and becomes part of the VCF Management Services environment.

The key idea is simple:

VCF 9.0 vIDB → VCF Management Services → vIDB 9.1

Note: If VMware Identity Broker (vIDB) is already deployed in the environment, it will not be automatically redeployed as part of the Services Cluster deployment. In environments where vIDB is not present, it will be deployed as part of the Services Cluster.

Next, we move on to the vIDB upgrade. Navigate to VCF Management → Upgrade and initiate the Pre-Check for vIDB. Once the pre-check completes successfully and all validations pass, we can proceed with the vIDB upgrade.

As part of the upgrade, the vIDB service is migrated into the Services Cluster, and the existing vIDB cluster is subsequently powered down/decommissioned as part of the transition.

Once the Services Cluster and vIDB upgrade are complete, other management components—such as VCF Automation, VCF Operations for Networks, and VCF Operations for Logs—can be managed and upgraded through the VCF Lifecycle service.

We had VCF Operation Network Post upgrade to 9.1, In VCF Operations we no longer see the Collectors in the VCF Operations GUI . With this we have completed the upgrade for VCF Management components , now we move to the Core Components Upgrade i.e. 1. NSX Manager
